Andrew S Murtha, MD

Dr. Andrew S. Murtha is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon in Kansas City. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients with hip and knee conditions. He has clinical expertise in hip and knee replacement surgery, including anterior hip replacement surgery, robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery, unicompartmental knee replacement and failed joint replacement surgery.

Dr. Murtha strives to provide his patients with the best evidence-based care to assist them in returning to a healthy and active lifestyle. He is involved nationally with the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and participates in clinical research to improve the care of patients. He is also an assistant professor in the University of Kansas School of Medicine and enjoys educating and mentoring future physicians and surgeons.

Dr. Murtha earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency while on active duty in the US Air Force at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) between Wilford Hall and Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC).

Following residency, Dr. Murtha served as a staff orthopedic surgeon with the 81st Surgical Operations Squadron at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. He functioned as the orthopedic surgery medical director and served as an assistant professor of surgery in the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine.

Following the honorable completion of his military service, Dr. Murtha completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at Houston Methodist hospital, where he trained with national experts in complex primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery in the Texas Medical Center.
