About Anthony M Alvarado

Dr. Anthony Alvarado is a neurosurgeon and is board-eligible by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He specializes in spinal oncology (including spinal column and spinal cord tumors), minimally invasive spine surgery and complex spinal reconstruction surgery.

Dedicated to building strong and long-lasting relationships, Dr. Alvarado takes a special interest in motivating and educating his patients to improve their quality of life. He is well-versed in diagnosing and managing patients with acute and/or chronic conditions, and he provides comprehensive care to each patient, seeing them as individuals, not illnesses.

He has specialized interest in minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal oncology, artificial disc replacement, robotic spine surgery, navigation-assisted surgery, endoscopic spine surgery, cervical deformity, spinal cord injury, spinal dural arteriovenous fistula, spinal arteriovenous malformation, basilar invagination, cervical radiculopathy, cervical degenerative disease, lumbar radiculopathy, lumbar spinal stenosis, cervical spinal stenosis, herniated discs and spinal trauma.

Dr. Alvarado received his medical degree from the University of Illinois and completed his residency in neurosurgery at University of Kansas Medical Center. He further advanced his training by completing a minimally invasive and complex spine surgery fellowship at Rush University Medical Center, under the guidance of internationally renowned faculty and pioneers in the field of spine surgery.

His research interests include clinical outcomes for spinal surgery, image-guided and robotic spinal surgery, and evidence-based guideline developments. He has authored more than 50 articles, book chapters and abstracts.

He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and AO Spine North America.

Outside of neurosurgery, he enjoys spending time with his wife, 2 daughters and 2 Labrador retrievers. He is also an avid runner and triathlete and enjoys competing in marathons and ironman triathlons in his spare time.
