Dr. David Anson is a neurologist specializing in neurocritical care and hospital-based neurology, certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is dedicated to caring for patients facing some of the most serious and complex conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. His clinical focus is on the medical treatment of ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, recurrent seizures, CNS infections, autoimmune diseases, brain and spine tumors, neuromuscular emergencies and brain injuries following cardiac arrest.
Acute neurologic injuries often bring significant uncertainty for patients and their loved ones. Dr. Anson believes in partnering with patients and families in navigating these difficult circumstances with compassion, transparency and a commitment to clinical excellence through a multidisciplinary team-based approach.
His research interests include utilizing simulation for medical education in neurology, neurovascular ultrasound monitoring in the neurological ICU and advancing best practices in brain death determination.
Dr. Anson received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria. He completed a residency in neurology followed by a fellowship in neurocritical care medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He holds additional certification in neurovascular ultrasound – a safe, noninvasive technique used to monitor blood flow in the brain and detect warning signs before they cause lasting harm.
Dr. Anson finds great purpose in teaching medical learners and colleagues at The University of Kansas Health System, a role that continually challenges him to stay current with the latest evidence-based practices in neurology and neurocritical care.
