About David M Smith

Dr. David Smith is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with a subcertification in sports medicine. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He earned his degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his residency at Michigan State University. He first became interested in sports medicine when he was 12. He was an avid runner, but his doctor told him to stop running when he began experiencing knee pain. Rather than give up the sport he loved, he became vigilant about injuries and proper training techniques. His clinical practice is focused on sports medicine, concussion in athletes and wellness/preventive medicine. He serves on The University of Kansas Hospital Concussion Leadership Team and is currently a team physician for the Kansas City Royals. His experience over the course of his career includes working with athletes at all levels, including professional, collegiate, elite amateur, Olympic and recreational. He is committed to treating all patients as if they were his own family, striving to assist them in achieving optimal health.
