Dr. Dawood Sayed is a national expert in chronic and acute pain due to spinal and nerve disorders. He strives to provide medical care to his patients like he would to members of his own family. His practice focuses on providing leading-edge, minimally invasive treatments to improve pain and restore a person’s ability to function. He speaks and teaches internationally on advanced treatments for various painful disorders and has published extensively on the subject. As a leading interventional pain medicine physician, he has introduced many new therapies for patients at The University of Kansas Health System. These include minimally invasive spinal procedures such as lumbar decompression (MILD) and Superion® InterSpinous Spacers for spinal stenosis. Additionally, he has vast experience in the field of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) for chronic spine and nerve pain and is involved in ongoing research geared toward improving pain relief and safety with this therapy.

Dr. Sayed’s areas of clinical interest are primarily focused on lower back pain, neck pain, cancer pain, nerve pain, neuropathy, degenerative disc disease, sacroiliitis, complex regional pain syndrome, neuropathy, radiculopathy, knee pain, shoulder pain, facet pain and tendon pain. He has expertise in multiple procedural treatments such as epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, image-guided injections, spinal cord stimulation, minimally invasive spine surgery, minimally invasive lumbar decompression, Vertiflex Superion procedure, minimally invasive spine fusion, minimally invasive sacroiliac fusion, intrathecal pumps, radiofrequency ablation, kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty, Tenex/tenotomy procedure, Intracept® procedure and regenerative medicine procedures.

Dr. Sayed is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology with a subcertification in pain medicine. He completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center and a pain medicine fellowship at the Tri-Institute of New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical College/Memorial Sloan Kettering. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
