About

Dr. John Danaher is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist at the health system’s Marillac Campus, where he provides comprehensive psychiatric care to children, adolescents and their families in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Dr. Danaher believes that effective psychiatric care extends beyond treating symptoms. He partners with patients and their families to understand each child’s unique strengths, challenges and environment, recognizing that meaningful and lasting change often occurs when the family is engaged as an integral part of treatment. His approach combines evidence-based medication management with psychotherapy, emphasizing practical coping strategies, resilience and healthy emotional development.

Above all, Dr. Danaher strives to provide a calm, compassionate presence for children and families during some of life’s most difficult moments. His goal is to help patients regain a sense of stability and normalcy in an otherwise chaotic world, empowering them with the skills and confidence to thrive both now and in the future.

A particular area of interest for Dr. Danaher is sports psychiatry. He enjoys helping young athletes optimize their mental health and performance while navigating the unique pressures of competition, injury, identity and balancing athletics with everyday life.

Prior to joining the team at Marillac Campus, Dr. Danaher spent 2 years at Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, as a consultation-liaison child and adolescent psychiatrist. In this role, he cared for children and adolescents across a wide range of clinical settings, including the emergency department, pediatric medical and surgical units, inpatient psychiatry and outpatient clinics. He also enjoyed mentoring medical students, psychiatry residents and child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, fostering the next generation of physicians through clinical teaching and supervision.

He completed his child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Kansas and is honored to continue serving the community where he trained.
