About John T Fritzlen

Dr. John Fritzlen is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular medicine. Following his medical training, he returned to his hometown of Kansas City and joined the team at The University of Kansas Health System. He provides comprehensive cardiovascular care with a special interest in the care of athletes and patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He provides thorough assessment of athletes with cardiovascular symptoms as well as screening for athletes who may be at risk for cardiovascular disease.

He is passionate about empowering patients with education on their conditions. He is a member of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Society and serves on the educational committee. He works closely with national patient advocacy organizations including the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA) and HeartCharged. He is engaged in ongoing clinical trials for novel medications for the treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He also collaborates and performs clinical research with national experts in the fields of sports cardiology and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Dr. Fritzlen completed his medical training, residency and fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he earned such honors as Intern of the Year, Mahlon Delp Award for Excellence in Medicine and Fellow of the Year. He also served as chief resident and chief fellow during his training. After graduation, he completed a subspecialty fellowship in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and sports cardiology at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey.
