Dr. Lucas Thompson is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with a subcertification in sports medicine. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He earned his degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He grew up in Olathe, Kansas, playing football, basketball and throwing discus and shot put on the track team for the Olathe North Eagles. He went on to play football at Baker University, where he continued his love of sports and decided to pursue a sports medicine career. As a primary care physician at the Sports Medicine and Performance Center, he is one of the primary care points of contact for high schools in the Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley school districts. In that role, he consults with trainers, provides recommendations, sees athletes in clinic and offers guidance if a patient requires surgery. He works with the youth sports program and is the main contact for Blue Valley West, Blue Valley Northwest, Blue Valley Southwest and Lansing high schools. He also serves as a primary care physician for the Kansas City Chiefs.
