About Omar A Almoghrabi

Dr. Omar Almoghrabi is double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He specializes in open heart surgery. In addition, he has a particular interest in minimally invasive approaches, including robotic heart surgery, transcatheter procedures and atrial fibrillation procedures.

He is an assistant professor of cardiovascular and thoracic Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Dr. Almoghrabi was born in Doha, Qatar, then moved to Amman, Jordan, before moving to Grandview, Missouri, at age 13 with his family. He attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City for his undergraduate studies in biological sciences and graduated magna cum laude. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he received the Honor in Medicine and Service to KUMC Awards.

He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, where he was selected as the chief resident during his last year of training. He then completed a fellowship in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he received the Outstanding Resident Award and the national AATS Thoracic Robotic Scholarship Award.
