Dr. Raja Zaghlol is a cardiologist specializing in advanced heart failure, heart transplantation and cardio-oncology. His clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, including the evaluation and management of patients requiring heart transplantation, left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), complex hemodynamic assessment and device-based therapies. In cardio-oncology, he focuses on preventing and managing the cardiovascular effects of cancer treatments. His expertise includes chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity, radiation-associated heart disease, immunotherapy-related cardiovascular complications, toxicities from targeted therapies, cardiovascular issues related to hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation and CAR T-cell therapy-associated cardiovascular events.

Having lived and trained in several parts of the world, Dr. Zaghlol brings a broad, culturally informed perspective to patient care. His experiences across different healthcare systems have shaped a deep appreciation for the diversity of patients’ stories, backgrounds and challenges. He values careful listening, clear communication and true partnership with his patients. Whether guiding someone through the complexities of advanced heart-failure therapies or supporting patients receiving modern cancer treatments, he is committed to delivering compassionate, thoughtful, and evidence-based care – grounded in the latest science and a genuine dedication to each patient’s well-being.

Dr. Zaghlol completed his residency and chief residency at Georgetown University/MedStar Washington Hospital Center, followed by fellowship training in cardiovascular disease at Washington University in St. Louis. He then pursued dual advanced fellowships in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology and cardio-oncology, training closely with national leaders in heart-failure therapeutics, transplant medicine and cancer-therapy-related cardiovascular care.

His research in heart failure and cardio-oncology has been nationally recognized. He has been honored as a Young Investigator Award Finalist at both the European Society of Cardiology and the Global Cardio-Oncology Summit, and he received the Burton E. Sobel Award for Excellence in Clinical Cardiovascular Research from Washington University. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and remains actively engaged in real-world cardiovascular outcomes research aimed at improving care for patients with both cancer and heart disease.
