Dr. Scott Mullen is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports-related injuries. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries, with a specialty in the care of sports-related injuries of the hip, shoulder and knee. Dr. Mullen is an assistant team physician for the Kansas City Chiefs and serves as a consultant for the Kansas City Royals and the University of Kansas athletics. He is also the orthopedic team physician for multiple area high schools.
Dr. Mullen cares for patients of all ages and cares for each patient visit with an individualized approach, focusing on the goal of returning the patient to the level of activity they desire and helping patients live an active lifestyle. He has specialized training to perform repairs of soft tissue injuries and performs reconstructions when repairs are not possible in the hip, knee and shoulder. He also is one of the few surgeons in the Midwest to perform core muscle repairs (sports hernia repairs) and can perform these alongside hip arthroscopy. His general surgery training makes him uniquely suited to care for these injuries. He also performs replacements of the hip in patients when indicated for arthritis.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and then completed 3 years of a general surgery residency program before going on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He then went on to Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Denver, Colorado, where he completed an additional year of training in a sports medicine fellowship and worked with the Denver Broncos.
Dr Mullen’s commonly treated conditions and procedures performed are:
Shoulder: Rotator cuff, labrum, biceps, impingement and AC joint instability repair
Knee: ACL, multiligament knee injuries, meniscus tears, patella instability, osteotomies and cartilage restoration
Hip: Labrum tears, FAI/hip impingement, core muscle injury/sports hernia, gluteus minimus and medius tears and hamstring repair
