Sidney Y Hu, MD

Dr. Sidney Hu is a board-certified bariatric surgeon. For nearly 20 years, she has been providing minimally invasive bariatric surgery and foregut surgery (of the pharynx, esophagus, stomach and anterior intestine).

She finds joy in meeting new people and providing a possible solution to their medical issue. She is buoyed by enthusiasm and motivation when she sees the positive changes in people's lives as they progress through their recovery.

Her philosophy of care is to emphasize that she and the patient are a team. She takes responsibility for providing education and her expertise to help each patient make the best possible decision. She takes time to get to know her patients and their support system so they can navigate any postsurgery difficulties in order to smooth recovery.

Dr. Hu earned her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. She also has completed the requirements for her fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS) and her diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (DABOM).

She was literally born at The University of Kansas Hospital after her father stopped to wash the car down the street from the hospital before taking her mom there! Since then, she is happy to have closed the loop by ending up as a physician at The University of Kansas Health System.
