Valerie A French, MD

Dr. Valerie French is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist with a focus in family planning care. She has dedicated her career to improving family planning access in the Midwest.

Dr. French grew up north of Kansas City as one of 4 girls and, therefore, felt comfortable at an early age with conversations about periods, sex, STIs and birth control. She finds joy in helping patients learn about their bodies, with a particular interest in birth control counseling. She has worked to reduce the barriers patients face when getting birth control, as she herself had difficulty obtaining birth control in college. She believes in equity and prides herself on creating a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds.

As part of her practice, Dr. French enjoys teaching medical students and residents, particularly with hands-on workshops. She has expanded family planning care at The University of Kansas Health System, including management of miscarriage and dedicated complex contraception services for patients with complicated medical histories. Her proudest accomplishment professionally has been the implementation of formal, nationally recognized family planning training program for ob/gyn residents at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Dr. French attended medical school at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Nebraska. She then completed a family planning fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, where she earned a masters in advanced science to gain additional research training.

As a native Midwesterner, she is delighted to serve the women of the Kansas City area and truly feels at home in the heart of the Midwest.
